About this tour

This full-day tour takes you just outside Tbilisi, where some of Georgia’s most memorable landmarks come together in one smooth route. We’ll start in Mtskheta — a peaceful town with cobbled streets and mountain views — before heading to the rock-cut caves of Uplistsikhe, a place that feels completely different from anywhere else.

Later in the day, the Chronicles of Georgia monument offers a bold contrast — massive columns, quiet surroundings, and a panoramic view over the city and the lake. And if you’re curious about the Soviet period, there’s time for an optional stop at the Stalin Museum in Gori.

It’s a day of variety — old towns, open landscapes, unexpected monuments — all tied together with private transportation and a guide who keeps things easy and flexible along the way.

Itinerary

Chronicles of Georgia

The tour kicks off at the Chronicles of Georgia, a striking monument tucked just outside Tbilisi. Sitting high above the city on a broad stone staircase, it tells Georgia’s story through massive sculptures — from legendary kings to key figures who shaped the nation’s path. Walking among these powerful images, you’ll get a real sense of the country’s deep and fascinating history.

Jvari church

Next on the route is Jvari Church a peaceful and iconic site perched on a hill overlooking the meeting point of two rivers. This ancient church is one of Georgia’s most important religious landmarks, known for its simple yet elegant architecture and the stunning views around it. It’s a quiet place that invites you to pause and take in both history and nature.

historic town of Mtskheta

The next stop is the historic town of Mtskheta, where you can enjoy a relaxed walk through charming streets lined with traditional shops and cafes. At the heart of the town stands the Svetitskhoveli Cathedral, one of Georgia’s most important religious landmarks. Its impressive architecture and rich history make it a highlight of the day, surrounded by the gentle rhythm of everyday life in this ancient town.

Optional stop at the Stalin Museum

For those interested in more recent history, there’s an optional stop at the Stalin Museum in Gori. The museum offers a glimpse into the Soviet era through personal artifacts, photographs, and exhibits about one of Georgia’s most well-known—and controversial—figures. It’s a thought-provoking visit that adds a different perspective to the day.

Uplistsikhe cave town.

The final highlight of the day is Uplistsikhe, an ancient cave town carved into the rock. Wandering through its tunnels, chambers, and open spaces, you can sense the layers of history hidden in every corner. It’s a unique place that feels unlike anywhere else.

A Georgian experience

We had a lovely day visiting the caves and churches. Our guide Akaki was amazing. He made sure we were happy and comfortable and was passionate about sharing the history and the Georgian way of celebrating life with us. The trip to the caves is really worth it and the churches included in this tour are beautiful. Akaki made the day super special with fun and laughter!
