Set out from Mestia for an unforgettable day in the heart of Svaneti’s wild nature. This adventure takes you to the stunning Chalaadi Glacier—where massive ice formations meet rugged alpine terrain. Just a short drive and a scenic hike away, this tour offers a perfect mix of mountain views, fresh air, and a close-up look at one of Georgia’s most accessible glaciers. We begin our day in Mestia with a short 15-minute drive toward the Chalaadi River valley. The hiking trail starts near the footbridge over the roaring river, and from there, we set off on a scenic 1.5-hour trek (one way) through a forested gorge filled with alpine trees and glacier-fed streams. The path gradually ascends until we reach the base of the Chalaadi Glacier—an awe-inspiring wall of ice descending from the peaks of the Greater Caucasus. After enjoying panoramic views, photo time, and a short rest, we return the same way back to the starting point and transfer to Mestia. Total hiking time is around 3 hours, with moderate difficulty.
