This 2-day private tour is a comfortable and culturally rich way to travel from Baku to Tbilisi, ideal for those who want to turn a border crossing into a memorable journey. Along the way, you’ll visit some of the most scenic and historically significant regions of northwestern Azerbaijan and eastern Georgia, accompanied by experienced English-speaking driver-guides in both countries.
Depart Baku in the morning and travel west through the changing landscapes of Azerbaijan. First stop is Shamakhi, once the capital of the Shirvan kingdom, where you’ll visit the historic Juma Mosque, one of the oldest in the Caucasus. Continue to Gabala, known for its forested surroundings and ancient ruins, where you can take a short walk or relax with a local lunch (optional).
Arrive in Sheki by late afternoon — a charming town set against the forested foothills of the Greater Caucasus. Explore the beautifully decorated Sheki Khan’s Palace, known for its stained-glass windows and intricate woodwork. Stroll through the local bazaar or artisan workshops before overnighting at a local guesthouse or hotel.
After breakfast, you’ll be driven toward the Azerbaijan–Georgia land border (Lagodekhi/Balakan crossing). Here, your Azerbaijani guide will drop you off just before the checkpoint and assist you with instructions. After passing through passport control and customs on foot, you’ll meet your Georgian driver-guide on the other side.
From there, travel through the heart of Georgia’s wine region — Kakheti — with a stop in Sighnaghi, often called the “City of Love.” Enjoy time to explore its cobbled streets, colorful balconies, and views over the Alazani Valley. Optional wine tasting or lunch can be arranged on request.
Arrive in Tbilisi by early evening and conclude your journey with hotel drop-off.
